Whatever you call it thrifting, junking or treasure hunting it’s a fun way to spend a few lazy weekend hours.
It was my college days in Atlanta before I discovered thrift stores. It’s not that I grew up a Diva I just didn’t know how great the thrill of a bargain was til college!
My pals turned me on to thrifting and showed me the most awesome treasures and things that a person eating Ramen could actually afford. I have been devoted to junking since my early college days and have trained my friends since to enjoy the thrill of the hunt.
Ellijay is one of the finest towns I have found for excellent bargains.
And now from my much older than college perspective I really appreciate how they give back to the community. Let me introduce you to my favorites.
Cartecay Thrift Store Inc
374 Main Street
This non profit does wonderful things for the community. The store is clean and organized and the workers can be very helpful. It has practically a library for the book section with even a chair included if you want to sit and see if a book is just right…The kitchen wares are plentiful and so are dishes and glassware.
They accept donations and have an up to date FB page with hours and times they accept donations…be sure to check out this little jewel on the edge of downtown.
Paws and Claws
Main Street next to Abby’s and L & Q
This store does just as it claims and takes care of our furry friends. They are dedicated to adopting pets and put their hearts in it!
It is the smallest of all the local thrift stores but definitely has the best location so when strolling around downtown stop in a grab a little something or just leave a donation to aid their venture!
Faith Hope and Charity Recycle
449 Industrial Boulevard
This store is one of the largest and is always well stocked..the staff is volunteers and as nice and helpful as you could want.
It’s creatively displayed and easy to move around and they also accept donations on certain days. Mostly the help they offer to our community from heat assistance to helping people with rent and utilities is outstanding. They are a powerhouse in this
area and count on sales at the store for a great deal of their resources. Please stop in and leave a donation if you don’t have time to shop!
Roots
449 Industrial Boulevard
The wonderful folks at Victory Christian and NGCC are doing a stellar job with this store. When you hit FHC you can’t help but find this gem in the same shopping center…again large and immaculate with such helpful workers. This store offers gently used clothing and has a great kids section and also tons of toys..even a room devoted to all things children love!
There are more thrift stores in the area but these are my top four…please check each one on their FB or website as all the hours vary for open store hours and donations.
And I hope you enjoy thrifting as well but it’s certainly fun to purchase knowing these stores are doing wonderful things for Ellijay!
Happy Hunting!
