17th Annual RUN FOR THE SON 5K

This year will be our 17th annual race. Our Run for the Son 5K is our second largest fundraiser. The funds raised from registration fees all the way to the sponsorships go towards sharing the Gospel with Gilmer’s 6th through 12th-grade students. What could be better than getting an awesome race day shirt, spending the morning fellowshipping with fellow supporters, and supporting the ministry of the CLC? We had a wonderful race last year with a record-breaking 417 people registered! We can’t wait to see how God uses YOU, our supporters, to make this year’s race great!

This year’s race will be held on May 6th, 2023 at the Gilmer County Scout Hut (75 McCutchen St, Ellijay, GA 30540). Packet pick-up and registration begin at 7AM. Our Fun Run and 5K will begin at 8:15AM. Our Tot Trot will follow weather permitting.

Our race is a beautiful, paved course which weaves by local landmarks like Harrison Park, Ellijay First United Methodist Church, and Historic Downtown Ellijay. If 5K races aren’t your speed, we also offer a one-mile Fun Run portion of the race before the 5K step off and a Tot Trot dash where every kid is a winner.

Not able to run the day of the race, that is okay! You can run when and where ever you want as a Virtual Runner! As always, Phantom Runner slots are available for those who do not want to run but want to support the CLC and receive the Run for the Son t-shirt.

We also offer team running. Each team will be competing to win the CUP OF LEGENDS ( goes to the team with the most registrants) or the CUP OF CHAMPIONS (goes to the team with the most race participants).

We also offer the opportunity to sponsor the Run for the Son 5K. Sponsorship is a fantastic way to promote your business, church, or group within the community while supporting the Gilmer Christian Learning Center. Sponsorship entitles you to a lot of great perks that vary by sponsorship.

Event details and schedule

Race day registration and packet pickup: Begins at 7:00AM

Fun Run: Starts at 8AM

5K Race: Starts at 8:15AM

Tot Trot: Starts at 9:20AM

Course: The race will start and finish at The Gilmer Scout Hut and will be a double loop.

Awards: Awards will be given to overall male/female, masters male/female and top three in 5-year age groups. 

Shirts and Goodies: Shirts are guaranteed to those who register by 4/28/23. Those who register after that date and on race day will receive shirts while supplies last. There will be plenty of refreshments.

Timing and Results: Finish line management provided by Classic Race Services with results posted to www.active.com, www.athlinks.com

Other Info: In case of rain, the races will go on. Delay of the start may happen in case of severe weather in the area at race time. If severe weather continues, then the race director or local authorities may make the call to cancel the race at that time. Sorry, no refunds.
